AI

Studying with AI without fooling yourself

The fastest way to waste an AI tutor is to ask it for the answer. You will feel like you are learning, and on test day, with no AI, you will find out you were not.

AI helps you learn when it makes you do the thinking, and hurts when it does the thinking for you. The difference is mostly in how you ask — and in whether the tool will let you skip the hard part.

Help increases only as far as you need it.

Ask for a hint, not the answer

"Which one is it?" gets you a letter. "What should I be looking at?" gets you a skill. Struggling for a minute before the answer arrives is not wasted time; it is what makes the answer stick.

Commit before you check

Pick an answer before asking whether it is right. Checking a guess teaches you more than being told, because your mind has something to correct.

Ask about your own results

General advice is everywhere. What an AI with access to your papers can do is specific: which topic is costing you most, whether you are faster or slower than your own average on it, and what to do tonight. Colorbook AI already knows your goal, your test date and how every paper went, and it says so when it cannot see something rather than guessing.

How Colorbook AI is built for this

In a Deep Dive's guided question, Colorbook AI works one rung at a time. It will highlight the clue, ask you a question that points the way, or — only when you ask — cross out a choice that is clearly wrong, never the right one and never more than two. It will not name the answer until you have chosen. Ask it "just tell me" and it says it cannot give it away, then points you at the words that matter.

And on the real test

No AI is allowed in the SAT. Everything here is about practice, so that on the day the thinking is yours.

Is it cheating to use AI for SAT prep?
No, as long as it is for practice. AI is not allowed during the real SAT, which is why practice should build your own reasoning rather than hand you answers.
Will Colorbook AI just tell me the answer?
Not before you answer. It hints, highlights and, if you ask, crosses out a clearly wrong choice. After you answer, it explains fully.
What can Colorbook AI see?
Your goal, your test date, how every paper went and your accuracy by topic. It does not see your name or email.

2,000+ questions, full-length adaptive mocks, and a report on how you worked. Free.
